Child prostitution is a common plague world wide. Child prostitution in India, unfortunately, is not a shunned subject...
- Violation of children's rights.
- Poverty # 1 cause.
- Who are these girls and where do they come from?
- Not exposed to the world.
Violation of children's rights.
Child labor is nothing new. Historically it has existed for centuries. A child is treated with love, warmth, mercy and compassion. Today on the streets of India it is not uncommon to see children being prostituted,both boys and girls but girls being the more common. It is reported in India 70% of women are forced into prostitution, 20% of these being children. A survey conducted by Indian Health Organization of a red light area in Bombay shows:
1. 20% of child prostitutes are children.
2. 25% of child prostitutes had been sold or abducted.
3. 6% had been raped and sold.
4. 8% had been sold by their fathers after forcing them into incestuous relationships.
5. 2 girls were bought every year, from Nepal to India and 20,000 of them are in Bombay brothels.
6. 15 - 18% are adolescence between 13 - 18 years.
7. Of the 200 million suffering from S.T.D's worldwide 50 million come from India alone.
Poverty # 1 cause.
A study shows that the poverty stricken fathers, brothers and husbands do not hesitate to sell their daughters sisters and wives. Children are not so much lured into but thrust into prostitution. Some of them are lured to Bombay the tinsel town. They dream of stellar roles in films and mostly end up as prostitutes in cages.
Who are these girls and where do they come from?
Tribal Kolta women and girls from Garhwhal hills are compelled to become prostitutes to [/i[i]rescue their family from debt or bondage.
Agents often visit promising good jobs and marriage to Nepal women.
Not exposed to the world.
Nepal has a very large female population and the majority of them are illiterate making them gullible and are therefore easily lured under pretext. They are fair skinned and attractive and the promise to get them into films tempts them. They are also very much unexposed to the outer world.

This is so darn sad Crystal. I was a run a way when I was 13, I didn't go the street walker way but, it could have been so darn easy. There are so many run a ways for the picking out on American streets. I saw one too many when I was on the streets back in 77. This is a great cause to put food for thought in peoples minds.
