Many people feel that they have neither the time nor the inclination to pursue a formal exercise program. Wrong! You have the time and opportunity - your daily activities and chores are there to be used for this purpose!

Here are some suggestions

Have you ever think about programming your daily activities at home or where you work so that they become exercises or even sports? And then there is the annual holidays that are golden opportunities for fitness activities.

You do not need to be a rocket scientist to work out a program that would also satisfy your body’s need for some exercising. Here are only a few suggestions to set that grey matters into thinking mode:

Bathing and showering: Stretch, reach and towel yourself dry with exaggerated, vigorous movements. Not only will those muscles of your body get charged up but your skin will be vibrant and stimulated and the pores will be opened – all which is healthy for you.

Dressing and undressing: Use a shoulder stretch to button or zip up at the back. Practise balance and co-ordination while putting on trousers and shoes. Remember to do the same routine when undressing.

Putting articles and items away: Climb and reach, or do knee bends while putting articles or items away.

Gardening: Get rid of your garden services. Not only will you save some money but you will get valuable exercise.

Climbing stairs: Lose the elevator and use the stairs. Do two steps at a time to firm up leg muscles and to heighten aerobic benefits.

Washing your car: Bending and stretching will do you good. And do not forget about “wax on; wax off”.

Riding train or bus: Give your seat for an old lady in the train or bus and stand. Whilst standing do toe-presses which will exercise your calf muscles. Or better, lose the train or bus and get a bicycle!

There are many more examples of daily chores you can utilize to exercise – just use your imagination.

Remember, do not sit when you can stand; don’t stand when you can walk and don’t walk if you can run – it is that easy!
