Search engines are vital to your online business. The truth is by focusing on only one, you run the risk of making money online which is lower than your expectations.
- How Many Search Engines?
- But... But Google!!
- I want to Make Money... if You Do... Do not Put It all In One Basket.
How Many Search Engines?
There are many search engines out there. The largest one by far is Google. The next two are Yahoo and MSN (or bing). These three have about 99% of the market share of search engines. There are many out there and they all follow teh smae rules.
Type in a bunch of search terms (or keywords) and you will be directed to a list of websites based upon your search term. This is where you will find a lot of key information about how to build your online work in to a strong business. this is also where you are starting with beginner SEO.
Once you have this information print it out for each one of the top three search engines. Look at them close, and you will often find that each has its own distinct top tens, and that is important since you can choose a keyword which will get a lot of traffic form one search engine, but will not with another.
But... But Google!!
Yes, Google, I know alot of people love to talk about Google, (how to make money with Google, how to get mor traffic from Google... and all the rest) in terms of making money online and other information. Still, they do not factor in some information that often goes unnoticed.
Using and focusing only on Google is not the best way to make money. Now, this time do the same thing you did a minute ago, and look for more information. Look at the websites that each one lists in their front page, or top ten..
Google often has a lot of article directory sites, whereas depending on the keywords you choose MSN (the bing part of MSN) and Yahoo often have smaller websites or blogs. So, you can get traffic from all three, but you must choose your keywords carefully.
Why? because you do not want to put your online bsuiness into any danger.
I want to Make Money... if You Do... Do not Put It all In One Basket.
Why danger?
Google and the other search engines all work on algorythms. To keep things interesting for people who really wan tot make money from search eengine traffic, they do change these formulas.
When this happens, it is a bad thing for publishers who only use one search engine to get their traffic. Imagine this case:
90% of your traffic comes from the Google search, and they do a "change." You can potentially lose a lot of customers, and also you can lose a lot of money. It will take a long time to get that traffic back... if at all.
or this case:
30% of your traffic comes from Google, and 40% comes from Yahoo and 20% from MSN. Now, let's imagine Google does its big tweak. The traffic drops from your Google part but, you will still have 60% of your traffic coming from Yahoo and MSN. This means not a whole lost of loss of traffic, but some, and maybe evem not a whole lot of hit to your money, and your business.
Knowing the search engines, and understand that they make you money is the biggest step. Know you should never put all your eggs in one basket, otherwise you can be in big danger.

Of course so many people are so focussed on being #1 on Google they ignore the other search engines and the savvy website owner can capitalize on their ignorance by dominating these other search engines.

Rebecca - I certainly did and hopefully a few people will pay attention as there is nothing as disheartening as watching your traffic grow for it all suddenly to go when Google moves the goal posts, so to speak.

Optimising your site is another way for your blog/s to be noticed. When I started joining an advertising network 2 months back, traffic keeps comming and my Alexa ranking starts to change tremendously from 8 figures and now almost nearing 6 figures. And I could see activities in the graph already.
