Mother Teresa - Her life as a poem: Life is a duty
Mother Teresa is a phenomenon in the God's creation.
The poem 'LIFE' is well-known as a great quote from her wonderful sayings.
This is an attempt to understand what is LIFE and its interpretation from each line in that poem.
Here, I examine how 'Life is a duty' and how to 'complete it'.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Duty is the work that you are obliged to perform for moral or legal reasons. Mother Teresa considered serving humanity was her duty. She dedicated herself for the service of the poor and orphans who were totally abandoned by the society.
She was the mother to the deprived and abandoned children. Her motherly love was solace to many sufferers who were disowned by their family members. She served them putting her heart and soul into the service she undertook. When she took an infant in her hands, it was like Virgin Mary treating the infant Jesus with great care and love.
‘Work is worship’ is a famous quote I often come across, and I confess that I am not doing my duty as worship. Because when I work, I might lose concentration on that work and my mind wanders away and thinks of something else. Any work done with full involvement of mind and body is considered as worship.
To quote Mother Teresa: “Give the world the best you have and you may get hurt.
Give the world your best anyway." Performing your duty must be done wholeheartedly - it must be the best ever of what you could have contributed so far and it must be done with great resilience and patience even though you may get troubles in delivering your work.
And that duty is complete only when you never lament under any kind of disparaging criticism or hurdles planted across your chosen deed.
It is not how much we do,
but how much love
we put in the doing.
It is not ho much we give,
but how much love
we put in the giving.
