Man beasts pour water from the sky. They tell terrible stories of the inferno and why the sky fell.

~Fly Away Home~

There are trees on fire
in the dead forest
Flames become
the final chapter
of their doom
and birds’ wings ablaze
in the smoking tower
of the afternoon

A sparrow sings her death song
as she frets around her nest
She pushes them out, one by one
those born to her, nurtured
until they are devoured with the rest

Man beasts
pour water from the sky
They tell
terrible stories
of the inferno and why
the sky fell

There are tiny tears
Someone ought to know
how brave she was
the courage of the sparrow
