~Rock & Roll~My oldest son, Tommy, was 25 that year~I was 50~my son-in-law, Troy, somewhere in between. Tommy threw a lead guitar riff across the room~Troy snatched it up on the drums~too strong without bass guitar to hold it up, I thought~they glanced my way & opened up the door~

~The Door~

walking down the same old road
we been strolling down before
funny, we got empty hands
reaching for that, wanting more
open up - open up the door
open up

a spiral in an empty room
spider mind across the bed
we crawling into helplessness
he spits and weaves his killing web
caught in silken golden ties
spread like jesus on the floor
woman on the fading wall
a saint, a mother, a wanton whore
open up - open up your door
open up

lizard marching cross our brain
leaves a wasted track of sand
we follow him to desert’s end
future running through our hands
windows we been praying through
godspeak in a whispered roar
hold me when I’m breaking down
locked outside the company store
open up - open up the door
yeah, open up

children’s faces in planet earth
living in a home at war
they’re headed for the killing ground
open up – they come looking for
yeah, open up - open up the door
open up - open up the door
open up, c’mon
