I have always liked to write. I write poetry and short stories, but I have never had the confidence in my writing to try to see it published before, so I am going to give it a try, at last!

How can reading compete with the world of technology? This generation of children are fortunate to be part of the technology explosion and to be technophiles, but parents and carers it is also vitally essential for children to know how to be creative and to use their imaginations.
I have been writing since I was about 5 years old. I love written English on a page. I love the sound of English words. I write poetry and short stories. Most of all, I write, simply because I need to write. I wrote this to explain to someone else why writing is so important to me.
Were you born and bred in an English speaking Country or Island? Does your cultural background influence how proficient your English is? Is their a disparity between how you speak English and you written English? I was born and bred in South London and both of my parents were born on ...
I like to sing, I go to Karaoke, 3 times a week at 3 different venues, if I have the time. I enjoy being centre stage when I am at Karaoke, but I have a very limited repertoire of 6 songs. My singing claim to fame, is that I auditioned for X-Factor in 2010. I never got onto the TV Sho...
I have been voting in local Elections and General Elections since I was 18 years old. Sometimes I am so disenchanted with all of the Political Parties and the Politicians on offer, that I am tempted to think that there is no point in me voting, but then I soon realise, that without my...
I have completed Race for Life 3 times and am due to do so again on 30th May 2015. In 2013, I was asked to give a speech for the 2,000 plus women and their supporters before the start of the Race for Life in Clapham Common. I was terrified, but somehow in spite of my nerves, pulled it...
Why does anyone choose to write in their diary? For me it helps me to write every day, it is the friend that keeps all of my secrets, it is the friend that never judges me and it is the friend that truly accepts me just as I am, no matter how shockingly honest that I am.
I wrote this poem for my Son-In-Law Simon, because I wanted to do something original for his Birthday and to be perfectly honest it only cost me 20 minutes in time. He loved this unique gift and found the poem funny
My daughter Petra got married to the love of her life Simon, on 5th April 2014 and it was truly a momentous day for me and the rest of my family. I had to write a speech, as I was the Mother of the bride. I had to write 2 speeches in the end, as I forgot the original speech at home an...
I am a Black woman of Caribbean descent. I was born in South London and have lived a large part of my life in London, apart from 6 years in W. Germany. Last year I finally put pen to paper to express my feelings about the racism and prejudice that I have experienced, due to the colour...
This is another one of my poems that explores the subject of who is the stronger sex. As a female, I fervently believe that women possess an innate strength that can never be matched by a man. I used humour in this poem, as this topic should always be discussed with an open mind.
I am a gambling addict, have been for many years. I started aged 18 by walking in a local gambling arcade and putting that 1st coin in the slot. If I had known where that would lead me, I would never have stepped foot into that arcade. I am now 53 years old and do not know when I will...
I am not a crusader about breast feeding, neither am I an expert on breastfeeding. My mother had 12 children and breast fed all of us, so I was determined to breast feed my children as they came along.
I had a 'relationship' with a man, that rejected me in the end, because I was not willing to jump into a sexual relationship with him until I had really got to know him and when did months later, I soon realised he was not right for me and too old for me. He had lied about his age. T...
I had an intense, loving relationship with my ex-husband for 5 years and even had 2 children with him before we finally got married. From the wedding day, I began to realise that I did not truly know this man. It was as if from the wedding day, he let his true nature be seen. I emerge...
Grief affects us all at sometime in our lives. How we cope with grief is individual to each of us. Yet the journey many of us have to travel to come to acceptance and contentment with our grief is shared by so many of us. I wrote this poem on the day when I realised the enormity of wh...
