Israel Needs To Finish Unfinished Business With Hamas

Constant fighting in the MiddleEast has left the region in tatters.

Ongoing tension and violence in MiddleEast

Every few months, violence erupts in the MiddleEast; it usually starts with rockets landing in Israel. Gaza militants have fired hundreds of rockets into Israel, some more than 100 kilometers (60 miles) deep, covering an area of about 5 million. But beyond some jitters and discomfort, they haven’t hurt Israelis much, causing no casualties and very little damage. The Iron Dome system and its impressive success thus far has had a strategic impact on managing the campaign against its enemies bent on obliterating Israel. Innumerable attempts at peace have failed so far and peace remains a chimera. Peace will an impossible effort simply because Israel is the lone non-Muslim country in the region. Hamas charter clearly states destruction of Israel as its goal!

Israel's defense system of Iron Dome

Israel's iron dome intercepts most rockets but they cause panic and havoc nonetheless. Washington Post reports that Israel's Iron Dome is a game changer in the regular wars between Israel and Hamas, Hezbollah, Palestinian Authority. "By shooting down more than 90 percent of its targets, the system is ensuring Israel’s decisive technological edge that has helped it operate virtually unhindered in Gaza. At the same time, it’s also providing a much-needed sense of security on the home front. "Iron Dome quickly recognizes the trajectory of incoming rockets and whether they are headed for major population centers. Those are shot down, while others are allowed to fall in empty fields to spare the hefty cost of firing the sophisticated interceptors. Local reports say each launching costs about $20,000. So far, Hamas and other Gaza militants have fired more than 420 rockets toward Israel in three days of fighting. The military says it has shot down 90 of those, including several over Tel Aviv and central Israel."

Israel needs to finish unfinished business with Hamas and Hezbollah

What remains is Israel's inability to finish unfinished business with Hamas and Hezbollah and all other terrorist groups operating in the MiddleEast. Making itself secure from incoming rockets and missiles is not enough, Israel needs to decimate the threat altogether, not only because it is the right strategy but more importantly because Israel has the capacity to do it. Appeasement does not work with terrorists; they don't understand it and neither appreciate it. Only force seems to be acceptable to Islamic hardliners whether in themselves or others. Israel should know it, they are from the same region! Perhaps Israel can learn a few lessons from Islamic Dictators themselves; wipe out not only erring individuals but entire communities! This is the strategy that seems to have worked well for Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Jordan and others, as well as for rogues like Mao, Stalin and North Korea's dear leader.

It is amazing to me that so many people fail to understand that when you subject societies to unrelenting heavy-handed oppression, they will inevitably resort to drastic measures.

You're right and I know what you're saying. But yore forgetting that Islamic societies are the most oppressive; oppression coming from their own people and their own irrevocable differences. They had once in a lifetime chance in Arab Spring and messed up again. Thanks Steve for your thoughts.
