A three (3) poems about the author's childhood, school memories, street scene and in general his hometown in a unique place South East Asia- city of Lipa.

of chidhood, street scene and my hometown

“The things which the child loves remain in the domain of the heart until old age. The most beautiful thing in life is that our souls remaining over the places where we once enjoyed ourselves”
-Kahlil Gibran

My Childhood Years

My Childhood Years

My childhood years
Checkered ,blues and dirt on my ears
Memories that made me smile
Little journey of unforgotten miles
dread and courage
And my whimsy outrage
On my childhood years

My childhood years
Tumbling and running
Why I jump more than crying
With my wooden toys
All are simple joys
On my childhood years

My childhood years
Puppy love and love letter
The last one i will always remember
Like my first kite
And all the things i like
On my childhood years

My childhood years
Like garden lush
Like the summer that seems to last
And rivers that will never get dry
Remembering like how my child first cry
On my childhood years

A Street Named Kalipulako

A Street Named Kalipulako

It was late seventies at our pondahan near Manila
folks starts coming out after the sun comes down
some booked a corner with a gin chaser glass
(actually from an empty instant coffee container)
I prepare the cheap appetizer in our sari-sari store
they will start ordering like its a hot commodities
from pork cracklings to roasted garlic corns
from canned corned beef to tamarind sweet
time like these can be frenzy
once spirits reign in their veins
and philosophers soul will be awaken
under their alcoholic belly .
Topics are easy picks
ranging from the latest radio news,
bad neighbors, lousy priest and politicians
or winning hueteng number (a local lottery)
run by the underworld gang of retired general.
It's anything goes really
embarrassing the barber's shop chat.
Our store aficionados are colorful too
an aging lawyer with Alzheimer,
a stranded Japanese son with a body of Schwarzenegger,
a Methuselah look alike tailor- known for his talisman,
a local politician cum slaughter man by weekend,
an outcast scion turn hobo,
a house painter and on-call plumber.
Tonight the hard debaters cult disciples are absent
due to their church schedule
but they are sure to be around had it been a weekend.

That day was an ordinary summer weekdays

(to be continued..boarding call when this was created)

Reflections of My Hometown

Reflections of my hometown

Reminiscing for what had gone by
as if yesterday still on my eye,
like movie flashing lullaby,
memories remembered with a sigh.

Pictures of youth, ridiculed
wanton and un-glorified,
with bullies and fear personified ,
delete! I would to be justified.

But why should I? If I will be sinned,
detaching black from gray It has been,
rediscovering the beautiful obscene,
reflecting the childhood I have seen!

Approaching golden introspection,
all of yesteryear imperfections,
recollection without solicitation,
without regret is true affection

Rediscovering home 'use to know
the place and terrain God had bestow
to my mind it animates and glow
images that the wind can not blow.

I can relate to yours in terms of my memories seeking refuge in my childhood innocent years Now reality is different for children though they may carry the memories like we we do - siva

Thank you Pak Yon it simply all in my vivid memories! Besides I grew up manning our own "convenient store" just the left side of that aerial shot photo you can see in the article. =) Red "L" shape roof behind the imposing school

SaigonDemanila:

Beautiful poems. My favorite was "My Childhood Years."

Like all good poets, every word works in the poem.
I was especially impressed with the four lines:

"But why should I? If I will be sinned,
detaching black from gray It has been,
rediscovering the beautiful obscene,
reflecting the childhood I have seen!" Wow!
