For tourists looking for a spectacular spot to visit during their summer vacation, Portugal offers a fair share of exciting places for family to have fun. Geographically, Portugal shares Iberian plateau with Spain on its eastern side. It has sea on its other sides and was very influential trading place in olden times. In Porto, home of Port wine you can sample some exquisite brews while watching sun set over the Atlantic.

Finding Portugal hotspots

Today, Portugal is as much dependent on tourism as it loves its football team. If you conduct a search on Internet for a place that has old world charm and offers you modern facilities like the Internet or online shopping and you will find Portugal. Popular tourist destinations

a) Lisbon
Built on range of seven hills, this capital city offers tourists plenty of stunning views and good eateries. You can get a tourist-plate set-meal for €15 or less. There are heavenly hillside locations and you can take in some royal palaces on your way.

a. National tile museum: Azulejo or ceramic tile in Portuguese and you find colorful tile work present in National Museum dedicated to Convent of Mother of God. Built in baroque style, you find huge paintings on ceiling resplendent in their golden frames. Guards and guides who work in this museum will tell about their rich cultural past.
b. Cristo Rei Statue: This is within walking distance of Marques de Pombal, all you have to do is catch a train up to Pragal. You can climb up on top of this statue and see a wonderful view of this city. It overlooks River Tejo and you can buy souvenirs on your way out.

b) Albufeira

From a tourist’s point of view, there is a wide range of beaches to choose from in Albufeira. You also get old fortresses and beach side cliffs. Local buses named GIRO will take you around from 7 am until 10 pm. You can also travel by double decker tourist bus, hop-on and hop-off if you buy a 24-hour tourist pass.
a. Albufeira Riding center is riding school where you can spend some pleasurable hours. It is a lovely way to explore its countryside at a gentle pace. If you time your ride, you will not be too uncomfortable.
b. Algarve Golf Academy and Sports Bar: Algarve Golf Academy has separate driving and chipping range. Lovers of this game will find it a good way to spend your leisure hours.
c. Clock Tower: Once you go to old section of town, on a hill you will see this Clock Tower.

c) Portimao

Portimao is barely an hour distance from Faro by train. It is ideal place for family tourists since there is abundant of delectable fish food here. Warm inviting sands of Portimao beaches offer tourists plenty of sunshine action.

a. Alvor Boardwalk: Pleasant walk on beach without getting sand in your toes – Alvor Boardwalk offers tourists and their family an hour walking in the sunshine on the board by this beach.
b. Museu de Portimao: This is a good place for entire family. You see many statues depicting local fishing industry. Sardines are available in plenty and you can eat fresh fish at one of the many restaurants on this beach.

d) Funchal

Funchal presents tourists an exciting blend of past world and world of today. It thrives on its sugar industry. People on their family vacation can enjoy its splendid craft industry and wines.
a. Ponta de Sao Lourenco: This spot is replete with great cliffs. Take a camera and capture some tantalizing photos of birds and sea cliffs. Go online and send them to your friends too.
