Where we left off Jean has gone to spend Christmas with her boyfriend and his family. Katie-Ann is furious and little Carissa doesn't understand why her sister Jean could not be home for Christmas.
The sisters were in Sydney and when they came home Katie-Ann was told that Jean was spending Christmas with her boyfriend's family for Christmas. We are beginning to see the rift between Jean and Katie-Ann.
Where we left off Carissa is finally told about her family history. She couldn't remember her mama when she was well. Katie-Ann present Carissas with a locket and chain as a gift from her mother to always remember her by. This is one of my favorite scenes in the book.

We last found out that 4 year old Carissa loved to eat anything from the sea because her father brought it home. We were introduced to her siblings. Carissa was the baby of the family.
We left getting to know Winchester Forbes, Carissa's father. We learned he was a fisherman, and a celebrated war hero. He was also quite restless after he came home from the war. We were also introduced to Carissa's mother and siblings.
