THE SPELL

When you are out walking in the countryside, are you often sickened by the sheer amount of litter strewn around, wherever you look, despite the abundance of litter bins or clearly marked messages to ‘take your litter home’? Cans and bottles, plastic bags and cigarette ends are unsightly at best and dangerous to the environment at worst.

Faery Folk Make Mischief on Wanton Woodland Litter Louts

Could be ‘tis time for the little folk to show themselves –to create mayhem with those who would desecrate the world around them.

The woodland folk have helped me to write some little rhymes, messages to warn the litterers among you that the witches, the elves and the hobgoblins who live in the trees, the forests the woods and the meadowland will surely get their own back one of these days!

Maybe they are already are at their mischief to recover the beauty of their landscape. Can you feel a tickle at your neck? A scrape or a scratch at your shoulder? An itch down your back? A flutter of feathers at your feet? A whispered warning in your ear? Ah, take care! They’re all around you – watching – watching...
SO -

Pick up that wrapper, those old crisp bags,
Put them in the litter with those damp old rags

Making Magic, Casting Spells - Witches Brew

The woodland folk are getting set to wreak havoc on the litter louts and vandals who swarm to the countryside in their thousands ...LISTEN!

Blend black cat’s fur and gossamer
Whisk autumn leaves and cottage eaves –
Add oak tree burr, make potions – stir
A witch’s magic broom she weaves

Hobgoblin laughs as contents simmer
Casts a spell until they shimmer
Adds green frogs’ legs and toadstools too
Until ‘tis done – Enchantment Brew

Woodland Folk Watch...and Wait ...Ready to Attack!

The witches of the woods, the fairies of the forest, the elfins of the dells are waiting... waiting for the clunk of old tin cans, the flutter of plastic sacks in the boughs and litter left by the wayside. They are watching ... and waiting ... to ATTACK!

So please, I tell, when in the dell
Don’t leave your litter – or the Glitter
Elfin’s spell won’t bode ye well
‘t’will make ye skitter - bones a’jitter

The White Witch watches from the skies
To swoop on vandals – down she flies -
To curse the ones who will not ‘bide
To take care of their countryside

Keep the Countryside of Northumberland Uncluttered

All of the photographs attached to this piece were taken at Bolam Lake Country Park. It lies approx nine miles west of Morpeth and is signposted off the A696 road from Belsay. It is situated in the heart of the beautiful Northumberland countryside, surrounded by historic landscapes and dramatic views.

Congratulations on your first star page Sheila, the first of many I''m sure. I didn't realize the British are as uncaring of their environment as we Americans. Seems it's a problem everywhere. Great article and poetry.

Oh, yes, Steve - BIG problem. But perhaps we in Britain have more 'faery folk' to deal with the vandals!!!! hahaha!

I just finished writing an article about plastic waste in another site. I came upon this wonderful article, beautiful picture, excellent poems and a deserving star-the entrance couldnt get much better. wikinut is so wonderful because it does not know how to hate. I also add one more thing-use fountain ink pen to reduce plastic pen use.

Only problem is, I'm terrified of ink! When I was a student nurse, I spilled a whole bottle of ink on a wooden-slatted classroom floor. It remained there for twenty-odd years until they pulled the building down a few years ago. Oh, dear. I wasn't flavour of the month, I can tell you...

Sheila, I find a very matured writing from you. You deserve all above compliments comments to you from other writers and i also want to add something from my side.

We human so called intellectual beings are raping our mother earth. Some of us want to protect the lap of mother understanding her greatness but greed, jealousy and other demonic vibes are making many people in this word crazy and they are definitely murdering and slaughtering the faith and identity of mother earth. Degradation of forest is just a part of the devastation they have done. This is why the limit of tolerance of our Mother earth seems to have crossed and we are compelled to be the victims of several life losing disasters.

Your poetry has a life of expression. I believe that writing words and making rhymes is not the poetry otherwise everything can become a poem. To become a poem, a piece of structure writing should have the flow of emotions and those writers who can add a life in it with their smart skill can create meaningful poem in the history of literature and your poem has that life.

Brilliant. Keep on writing and also inspiring us. I' be happy if you also pass your opinions and feedback for my writing.

A big hello, bigger greetings and biggest regards with heart full of 'Namaskar' from a Nepali boy from the land of Mount Everest, brave Gurkha soldiers and Life philosopher Lord Buddha, currently from New Zealand.
